nana patekar wanted tirangaa sequel? producer shreyans hirawat shares details - exclusive

Nana Patekar’s sudden demise at 75 shook the film industry. It was a busy year for the actor as he was working on multiple projects. One of his upcoming films, The Confession of Mary, will be releasing in Indian theatres shortly. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2026 in September. The producer of the upcoming movie, Shreyans Hirawat of NH Studioz, spoke about his working experience with Nana and said the veteran actor was keen on taking Tirangaa forward with its sequel.

Shreyans Hirawat on Nana Patekar’s death

Talking to Zoom, Shreyans revealed his reaction to the news of Nana’s demise. “I received a news link on WhatsApp around 7:45 this morning from a Canadian journalist. I was completely shocked and immediately called Malhar to verify it. He couldn’t answer my call, but his message shortly thereafter confirmed what I was desperately hoping wasn’t true.”

He further said that he couldn’t believe that the veteran actor passed away. “My last conversation with Nana ji kept playing in my mind, and all I could think about was how I had missed the opportunity to meet him again,” he said.

Shreyans mentioned that he was in touch with Nana and had spoken to him after The Confession of Mary’s Toronto International Film Festival’s premiere. “He had really wanted to be there but couldn’t take such a long journey. He was particularly curious about the audience’s reaction and was genuinely happy to hear how well the screening had gone,” he revealed.

Tirangaa sequel

The producer said, “We also discussed the sequel and certain aspects of the Tirangaa script. As always, he was full of enthusiasm and ideas. Before hanging up, he asked me to come and meet him once I was back in Mumbai. That is something I will always regret. I thought I would catch up with him at ease during Navratri. Little did I know that life wouldn’t give me that opportunity.”

Shreyans concluded by saying that Nana sounded absolutely hearty and healthy. He said nothing about that conversation could have prepared him for something so sudden.
