The third day of Navratri is dedicated to the third form of Goddess Durga, which is known as Maa Chandraghanta. She is the married form of Goddess Parvati and is known for being peaceful and concerned about the welfare of her devotees.

Maa Chandraghanta Vrat Katha

As per Hindu scriptures, Maa Parvati, after getting married to Lord Shiva, took the form of Maa Chandraghanta. Her name translates to ‘one who has a half-moon on her head shaped like a bell’. In her iconography, she is shown with 10 hands full of weapons, with her third eye always open. Goddess Chandraghanta carries Trishul, Gada, Sword and Kamandal in her four left hands and keeps the fifth left hand in Varada Mudra. She carries lotus flower, Arrow, Dhanush and Japa Mala in her four right hands and keeps the fifth right hand in Abhaya Mudra.
