Salman Khan’s much-delayed film, Maatrubhumi – May War Rest In Peace, is now releasing on December 4, 2026, in theatres. The makers unveiled the Maatrubhumi trailer at a grand launch event in Mumbai on November 6. Salman interacted with media, where he dismissed the rumours of government pressure to rewrite the Maatrubhumi script. Salman stated that there was no negativity. He clarified the makers had simply decided to develop a new version of Maatrubhumi. He also refuted reports suggesting that the script of the film had been rewritten under government pressure. He called such claims ‘baseless’.
Salman Khan On Delay In Maatrubhumi Release
For the unversed, Maatrubhumi is said to be based on a 2020 battle between the Indian army and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley of the Indo-China border. The film was supposed to be released in April 2026. However, a report surfaced on the internet stating that the Salman Khan starrer’s release had been put on hold by the censor board due to the government’s alleged concerns about the portrayal of India-China relations.
Reacting to such claims, Salman Khan at the Maatrubhumi trailer launch said, “Rewrite it? All this is nonsense. It’s not true at all. We have made a film about these soldiers, what they go through and what their families go through, on both sides. So, there is no negativity in it. It is just that the circumstances are negative.” He further referred to Maatrubhumi director, Apoorva Lakhia, and explained that the initial version of the story was conceptualised by him.
Khan clarified that the film was initially inspired by the Battle of Galwan that happened in June 2020. But now, he explained that the current version focuses on the soldiers and their experiences during such confrontations.
Salman said, “For these soldiers, the nation comes first. They may like each other, but whenever such a situation arises, the nation comes first. Both sides are trying to resolve this. Our director had an earlier version.”
