‘Courage Is Taking Rational Decisions Under Fire’: Ex-Army Chief Gen Dwivedi At Times Now Amazing Indians Awards 2026

courage is taking rational decisions under fire ex army chief general upendra dwivedi at times now amazing indians awards 2026

Former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi spoke about military courage and said that it’s a courage which is under fire and taking rational decisions when you have the uncertainty and the cost is very high that is with your life.

Speaking at the Times Now Amazing Indians Awards 2026, the former Army Chief, when asked about what is courage, said that what he saw at the Amazing Indians Awards, it was a sustained courage. “Somebody who is treating the wildlife for 40 years, somebody who has gone to the sand miners and convinced them to protect the birds, the environmental degradation they were responsible for but now they have turned around, somebody sold up the land to develop a school, so I think this is the kind of sustained courage which is entirely different.”

When asked whether it was difficult to choose Amazing Indians, General Dwivedi said that it was an inclusive decision but like the way it has been brought out that you have pre-biases, own exposure, is giving you various kinds of judgement which may be different or at variance with others.

So as far as I’m concerned, I have put four filters, which are:

  • Service before self
  • Sacrifice
  • Selflessness
  • Sustainability

“So based on these four factors, I propose these names and of course based on the discussion we came to a conclusion,” he said.

“And on a lighter vein, whenever we had any issue, the former CJI DY Chandrachud was there to give the final decision,” the former Army Chief concluded.
