History was made in the Ranji Trophy on Monday (October 19) during the plate group between Mizoram and Nagaland at the Nagaland Cricket Association Stadium in Dimapur, as Chinmay Suthar scored 400 runs in the first innings of the match. Playing for the visitors, he walked out to bat at number three in the eight over of the match after opener Sahil Reza was dismissed for four runs.

Suthar made an unbeaten knock of 400 in just 517 balls as Mizoram posted a massive total of 581 on the board before declaring their innings. The 29-year-old’s knock included 46 boundaries as well as seven sixes.

Suthar has registered the second highest indiviviual score in the history of the Ranji Trophy after Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s 443 for Maharashtra against Katiawar in Pune. The Mizoram cricketer joins Nimbalkar as only the second Indian to score a 400 in first-class history and ended a 78-year wait for a player from the country to complete a quadruple in red-ball cricket as well as in India’s premier first-class competition.
