The Indian Women’s Hockey team is one win away from winning their first gold medal in the Asian Games since their triumph in the 1982 edition in New Delhi as they secured a clash in the gold medal clash of the 2026 edition after beating five-time champions South Korea 2-0 in the semi-final on Wednesday (September 30) at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium.
India had to stay patient as there were no goals in the first half of the game. Their opening goal came in the 43rd minute with Ishita scoring from a penalty corner, which was India’s 10th of the game. Later, two minutes after the fourth quarter started, skipper Salima Tete found the back of the net.
India will now face defending champions China in the gold medal clash on Friday (October 2) at 3:30 PM IST. The Chinese team defeated Japan in a penalty shootout earlier in the day to seal their place in the summit clash. The two teams are set for a tense clash just a month after playing an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Women’s Hockey World Cup.
